Do you find that it is nearly impossible to get enough fruits and vegetables in your kids’ diet? Or maybe yesterday your child loved broccoli and today they hate it? It can be hard to keep up. Fruits and vegetables are a huge source of vitamins, minerals, nutrients, antioxidants, and fiber to name a few important things. They are also low in calories, help to boost the immune system, eating them helps to reduce the risk of many diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. Unfortunately telling your children all of the health benefits does not guarantee they will eat anything. It is generally recommended that children eat a minimum of 2 servings of fruit and 3 servings of vegetables per day. If that sounds like every meal would be a struggle here are a few good ideas for making sure your child is getting those benefits.
Sometimes being a good parent means you have to trick your children into eating health food. There are several very easy ways to do this. The first being make smoothies. You can use a base of fruit and/or vegetables they will eat and then sneak in a few things they won’t. For instance making a strawberry banana smoothie and putting a little spinach in it.
Another very easy way is using a greens powder. This month at Croixview Family Chiropractic our supplement of the month is Dynamic Greens by Nutridyn. This greens powder comes in 9 different flavors and one scoop contains 20 servings of fruits and vegetables. It is a concentrate of whole foods that is full of phytonutrients, enzymes, and antioxidants. It also does not contain any sugar or stimulants such as caffeine. It is always best to get your fruits and vegetables from whole food sources whenever possible but this is an amazing addition when you are constantly on the go. You can mix it with water or in coconut milk for some additional natural fat. Stock up next time you are in the office or grab a few sample sizes to try all the different flavors.
